About The Black Cow

The Black Cow is an ice cream parlor located on Route 109, in Millis, MA. We have both indoor and outdoor eating areas. We specialize in making delicious homemade Ice Cream, Fudge, and very soon; Root Beer. Our menu reflects both customer suggestions and interesting flavors that we have came across in our travels. We use all the freshest ingredients, ripest fruits and real extracts.

MixerThe reason our ice cream differs from the others is the overrun. This is where all ice cream manufacturers whip their ice cream together with air. This is called overrun, which means the amount of air in ice cream. For example 100% overrun equals 50% air 50% cream. Lower cost ice creams are usually 100% overrun.

The Black Cow Ice Cream is 30% air 70% cream . We do this with our Emory Thompson batch freezer built for us in Bronx, NY. All our ice cream is a minumum 16% butterfat. We put as little air as possible to make a much better product  It has a real nice texture and the ice cream is more dense but it is still very light and creamy.
